Buying a shipping container online isn’t quite the same as ordering something that arrives in a box. When your purchase involves a box—and those can weigh up to 8,000 pounds—you’ll need to do a bit more planning and coordination.
This guide explains how shipping containers are delivered, the costs involved, and how to prepare your site for delivery.
Space Requirements and Site Requirements
Each container shipping method has its own space and access requirements. Here is a general guide.
Region Method Length Clearance Height Clearance Width Clearance Maximum Vehicle Weight
Europe Side Lifter 18.75 m / 61.5 ft 4 m / 13 ft 7 m / 23 ft Up to 40 tons
Europe Truck Crane 18.75 m / 61.5 ft 4 m / 13 ft 3.65 m / 12 ft Up to 40 tons
*If there are low-hanging wires at the delivery location, they must be at least 18 feet off the ground to allow for a tipper bed delivery.
If your location does not allow this type of access, speak with your container representative. There may be alternatives, such as providing a smaller trailer or even special repositioning equipment to facilitate your delivery.
Delivery cost for sea Container
The cost of delivery for shipping containers depends on several factors, including distance, access conditions, road restrictions, and local driver availability. Below are rough estimates to help with your budget planning.
Deliveries are calculated based on heavy-duty truck routes, avoiding toll roads whenever possible. Containers can typically be delivered within a 300-mile radius of a depot. However, cross-state deliveries may incur additional charges.
Local tipper delivery over short distances: approximately €400-€600
Long-distance delivery (200-300 miles): €1,200-€1,550+
Loaded truck transport: can be about €1 per mile cheaper (but requires additional unloading equipment).

Delivery Costs in Poland and Other European Countries
Delivery costs are calculated based on heavy transport and are generally per kilometer. Containers can usually be delivered within a 400-kilometer radius of a depot, with additional charges applicable if a ferry crossing is required.
Short Distance (Local):
Delivery with a mobile crane: €370-€600
Delivery with a side loader: €380-€650
Delivery over Longer Distances (300-400 km):
Delivery with a mobile crane: €1,200-€1,550+
Delivery with a side loader: €1,300-€1,700+
These figures are for budgeting purposes only. Please refer to your quote for the exact delivery costs.
Preparing for Delivery
To ensure a smooth delivery of your container (and avoid charges for dry runs or redelivery), it is important to prepare your site in advance. The basic steps include:
Site Access
Ensure the road is suitable for a heavy truck and that the driver has enough room to turn around and reverse. Check for gates, branches, or power lines that could obstruct the route between the road and your container’s destination.
Ground Preparation
Containers must be placed on level, firm ground to function properly. Correct leveling helps avoid problems such as misaligned doors or structural stresses that could hinder the container’s future use. If your site is soft or uneven, you should create a foundation such as a gravel or concrete slab. If you are only placing the container temporarily, use wooden blocks or railroad ties to keep it level.
Communication with the Driver
Send us photos of your location and clear directions in advance. The more information you provide, the smoother the delivery day will be. If the driver cannot safely access your property, you may still be charged for the trip – and the return trip.
